LinkedIn News: Submit articles and find more RSS Feeds!
Since we announced LinkedIn News late last year, we have continually made improvements to enhance your user experience. A couple of the most recent changes include, sharing LinkedIn News and recommending LinkedIn News.
Today, Eishay and I would like to announce a couple more changes to the LinkedIn News experience that we have started rolling out from today. See below for a description and process flow of these two enhancements.
1. Submit an article on LinkedIn News
Here are the three simple steps to submit an article/blog post that you’d like to share with your colleagues or peers.
* Step 1: Click on the “Submit a new article” link on the LinkedIn News section
* Step 2: Submit a news article
* Step 3: Share a news article
2. More RSS feeds in your LinkedIn News
LinkedIn News always had this healthy mix of traditional media articles as well as blogosphere feeds. Starting this week, you should start seeing content from RSS feeds of blogs you have mentioned in your public LinkedIn Profiles.
How can I include my blog as LinkedIn News content?
Add those links to the “Website” section within your LinkedIn Profile and make it public. Here are the two simple steps to do exactly that:
1. “Edit my Profile” within the “Profile” tab
2. Edit “Websites” under “Additional Information” by adding your blog details

This is great – if I could see it working. How do I enable ‘news’ for a small company? Moreover is it just limited to company, or can the RSS feeds get aggregated by industry or ideally by connections, so I can see what my connections are blogging about – realistically I see the value in that not just a closed internal network for the same company.
This would be absolutely golden (to see RSS feeds aggregated across my network) and would go a long way towards fulfilling the idea that linkedin is the ‘facebook’ of business.
This platform holds alot of promise, but I think if it becomes an insiders club for large corporates, it’s going to be lost on arguably the large majority (?) of users.

I am having difficulty getting my blog RSS feed set up following your instructions. I have done the edit and hit add changes, but it doesn’t appear on the profile.
By the way, you should do a lot more in terms of showing people how to maximize usage of the site.

How to add a news/discussion for a linkedin group?
Lincoln Rozelle May 20th, 2008
This is still really lame. Can you remove it? Or at least give us the option of removing it until it becomes a decent feature?
Come on! LinkedIn is great! This feature is total crap.

@Rowan, @Lincoln,
As Jen mentioned, the feature is still in beta and we’re resolving many of the issues raised by users.
Stay tuned for upcoming feature updates, which will resolve the problems you’re facing.

A couple of weeks ago I made all the changes to include my blog as Linkedin News Content (you even got me to have my profile public something I have been avoiding for a while!) :)
I have no way to know if the feed is being picked up, as I don’t write about my actual industry (HR/Internet) but about about creativity and innovation. So far I haven’t seen the feed being picked up, but again, I don’t think I have a way to see it in linkedin.
Yesterday for example I posted a summary from an European Report about Creativity in Higher Education that I truly believe it may be interesting for anyone in the education industry and I would like to make sure the feed is being picked up to be able to spread it among people in the education industry…
How can I know if my feed is being picked up?
Thanks in advance, Sandra

Having your blog on your profile is definitely a good thing to do to boost your own professional brand.
Currently there is no way for you to know if we’re crawling your blog. It does take a while before we have it indexed and there is no grantee for if and to whom will we display it. We are doing our best to provide the most relevant professional content to the right members according their professional profile and there are few metrics for that.
Please note that you can share content (like your blog entry) with your company or first-degree contacts by clicking on the “Submit a new article” link on the homepage.
Anyway, yhanks for the feedback!
I’ll make sure our product managers ok into it.

Thanks Eishay :)

Can you provide a bookmarklet that I can click to add news automatically? Sort of like the “Share on Facebook” button and “Save to Delicious” button I already have.
Jennifer Granito July 21st, 2008
@ Derek – It’s like you are reading my mind. Keep a look out for expanding functionality around sharing news with your connetions and group(s) on LinkedIn. New features are coming very soon!

Thanks to everyone for your comments and feedback. Looks like many of them are in line with Jen & team’s plans as well.
However, we’re closing this thread to redirect comments to the appropriate blog post. Please continue to contribute feedback to upcoming posts on the same topic.
