Announcing LinkedIn’s native iPhone Application
I’ve got some exciting news for iPhone lovers as I’m here to announce LinkedIn’s very own native iPhone app. Based on the same back end which serves LinkedIn mobile, LinkedIn iPhone App provides users with a quicker response and more features; basically the complete mobile experience for professional networkers.
In additional to seeing status update, browsing connections, and search that you can already do with the web enabled app (check out my earlier blog post and video demo that covers the original feature set), here are three major enhancements you’ll find on the new native iPhone app:
1. Update your status on the road
2. Address Book Integration
3. Saving your search history and results
Thank you for using LinkedIn Mobile/iPhone app. Please continue to send us feedback. We are working hard to improve the application and add more features. Leave a comment or two.

Installed it. Works great.
Scrolling the contacts list is slow and jerky (as you know).
Can you deal with incoming invitations and messages?
Mark August 21st, 2008
Fine, iPhone… Whatever. But what about version for Windows Mobile (the other 12% of smartphone users out there?)

Will we ever have a blackberry app for those of us who don’t want to go to AT&T for our service? Just a thought….
Cool that you guys have a iPhone app for the other side of the tech geek house though :)
Eric van de Wetering August 22nd, 2008
Installed the app. from the App Store and it’s in Japanese. Always wanted to learn, but maybe this isn’t the right moment. How do I change the setting? Please advise. Regards, Eric :-)

Awesome. Well done. Many improvements are possible but as a first effort it is great.
1. use iPhone database to search for new potential contacts
2. Respond to invites

Looks good, but for some reason I don’t get any updates.
Julius August 22nd, 2008
I was anxiously waiting for that and i am very impressed.
I really loved the updates section, I think it was completely spot on.

Looks good. Wondering when we can enter our telephone nummers, or Skype addresses in our profile, so we could immediately make a call. That shouldn’t be that difficult now..

Works awesome, it’s been a while since i used LinkedIn. I got the app for iPhone, which has now reinvigorated my desire to use linkedin. I saw no real need, and was never really motivated to add people as connections by going to the website. Now that it’s on iPhone and i can just jump on anywhere and do my thing; im really liking it and have been using it religiously. Thanks for this!
Some notes/bugs i’ve found:
- Jerky connections scrolling
- No ability to delete searches or turn off the option for linkedin to remember it.
- No preferences bundle, so Linkedin forgets my login info and i’ve got to type it in almost everytime i open the app (annoying)
- Status page shows blank sometimes, and doesnt show my past statuses (it only shows the one i just put in), the rest of the tables are empty.
- Where is the option to invite someone as a connection? I see invite on people’s profiles, but when i tap on it it opens the screen that i get when im inviting a new user to join linkedin? which brings me to my next observation…
- When i open the Invite screen it is auto-scrolled to the bottom of that page and it is very difficult to get the app to let me scroll to the top (where name/addr. book button is, all i see is email and the message window).
- When sending messages, sometimes there is no option to send.

Great! BlackBerry?

Love the app, great job!
All of a sudden, this weekend, my updates page started showing, “No Updates” even though on line showed many updates. I would love to be able to accept invites from the app but it’s not that big of a deal for me.
Also, I’d like to be able to invite co-workers from the app without typing their e-mail address. Since I can do that online I’d like to do the same from the iPhone app.
Great job putting this app together!

Looks nice,
I have installed it but it was in Chinese (?). (My iPhone is in Dutch)
Raffaele Gerbasi August 26th, 2008
Great app idea, but for some reason my update screen is always blank with “No Updates” display only.
Gerald Inman August 26th, 2008
I like the application. Loads fast, does the essentials and work well even under 2G. There is no Q&A but I am sure that can be added in later updates. This is a good app. Thanks LinkedIn. :-)

I’d been thinking about buying an iPhone but now I am more interested in the new Google Android phone coming from T-Mobile in October. Is an app for Android also in the works?
Kathleen September 2nd, 2008
Just a thought, how about an app for users of the Palm Treo smartphone?
Nicolas Fleury September 4th, 2008
That’s the application I was expecting unfortunately, it does not work on my iPhone and systematically crashes at launch.

App works great but how can I see an invitation from the app? I got an invitation in my email but could not see it from within the Linkedin iPhone app. Did I miss something or is it not supported (yet)? Please add this feature.
megan September 12th, 2008
The first version worked great, but after downloading the update, it doesn’t do anything when I open the app…just goes back to my main screen. Bummer!
Darrik Mazey September 13th, 2008
It would be really nice to have the option to “remember” a login so we don’t have to type in our email addresses and whatnot every time. Any plans for this?
Pär Wiger September 17th, 2008
Agree with Darrik – remember login is missing. Otherwise great app!
Pat Lyons October 1st, 2008
It would be nice to see your inbox so you could accept invitations right from the iphone..or am I missing this? Very nice app though!

I can’t get LinkedIn Mobile to even come up on my Blackberry. Anyone else having this problem? Clearing the cache doesn’t help either.
Ryan T January 6th, 2009
eh…I just downloaded it for iPhone, not so great. There is no way to update my profile on the fly, which is very important. Everything that can be done on the main site needs to be available for mobile users. Facebook and Myspace do it…(minus the stupid apps and solicitation which is even better).
It does have some cool features though (local browser, call option, etc). But needs at least one good update.
Thanks!
Adrian Hoe February 24th, 2009
I just downloaded it for my iPod touch. I can’t login to LinkIn. It says my email or password does not match in record. I have no problem login on the web.
What’s wrong?
dirkfrey March 31st, 2009
@ Adrian Hoe -Please verify that you are using the latest version of the iPhone App (1.0.3). With a previous version, there was a message telling you that your email and password were incorrect when in actuality there was Internet connection. If you still continue to have this issue please contact us by using the Customer Service link in the bottom navigation area of your LinkedIn homepage.

Application works great but no Logout button? Or am I missing it somewhere?
Dirk Frey November 30th, 2009
@Dylan- The log off is built into your iPhone settings. Go to the settings icon on your phone and then scroll down to find the LinkedIn icon. From there you will see the ‘Sign Out on Exit’ option. It’s probably set to off. Touch off once and the on button will be activated. Hope this helps. Continue to keep your eye out for more enhancements!

Not obvious how to get help for the new version of the iPhone app. Can it access groups, particularly the group discussions?
cyndie January 11th, 2010
I would like to be able to access groups. We have a group for networking. Access to the group has been limited to the internet or safari. Is group functionality available for this version or is it planned for a future release.
Thank you,
