LinkedIn’s Customer Support Site and the Learning Center

I often run into people who say “I have a profile, but I don’t know what to do next”. The answer may only be a click away. Here are my top three suggestions to guide you to “next:”:

1. Create a robust profile:

You’ve entered the necessary information but your profile is not 100%. Here are some easy solutions to increase your level of completion: add your photo, create a summary (this should be your 30 second elevator speech), add descriptions of your positions within companies, previous education, tagline and get recommended by a colleague, client, partner or teacher.

All of these additions will increase the visibility of your LinkedIn profile.

2. Join a Group:

Our groups segment is becoming the information highway between colleagues, alumni and business associates. To find a group that fits for you is easy. You simply search by name or description.

3. LinkedIn Education Resources:

Finally, feel free to use the LinkedIn Learning Center and our Customer Support sites. Both of these areas could be extremely valuable. The Learning Center allows you to navigate LinkedIn at your own pace and become more knowledgeable about the power of using LinkedIn. The Customer Support page will allow you to find answers to the questions you may have about using the site or various products.

Send us your feedback on either site by leaving a comment. Thanks!

  1. Great suggestions April! However, I have a concern about point #2:Join a Group. Most of these groups are infested with the super networkers who want be in every group just because they are super networkers. The worst part is that they are listed at the top of the list in every group. For example, I joined a special focus group and wanted to research members of that group to see how we can help each other. The first obstacle was 2-3 pages of super networkers who have no reason to be in that group. It defeats the purpose of a group.

I know that we cannot stop the creator of the group from accepting these super networkers but can we list these group members in a different order?

In my Omaha Networking Group, I have about 500 members and only 3 members are not from Omaha but have some ties with Omaha. I have put some time and effort to build this group carefully. I wish other group moderators would do the same to increase effectiveness of these groups!

  2. The so-called “super networkers” are virtually worthless as connections. They’ll happily connect with you, but since they don’t know you, they can’t recommend you. They connect you with a lot of neat people, but they can’t really recommend any of them, since they don’t know them, either! They’re deadbeats — creating hundreds (or thousands) of “connections” they can’t back up with relationships.

Can we please get the ability to filter them out of results?

  3. I am new and just tried to submit my profile in Linkedin. I think I have done something wrong. When I go back to the internet and just put in my name or my name and commercial realtor or commercial real estate nothing comes up in Linkedin. Where do I need to change my profile so others can easily find me?

  4. How to post to our blog? Guide me for this.

I want to give rejoinder to Dr. Robert Sapolsky stress interview blog. My interest is to inform about my stress free week guide. As he recommends to ‘Never being bored’ my guide has new stress tips. My guaranty is you will find few stress tips you have never heard and they all work.
