Hi Everyone. I’m writing today to announce the launch of LinkedIn’s applications platform that will enable over 30 million professionals on LinkedIn to communicate, collaborate, and share information even better than before.
This initial roll out features productivity applications that range from gathering information that professionals around you are generating to enhancing your abilities to collaborate and communicate more effectively. You’ll be able to work much more closely with your contacts on LinkedIn with tools such as file sharing, project management, business trips and many more.
The nine applications that you see live today on LinkedIn include productivity enhancing applications from Amazon, Box.net, Google, Huddle, Six Apart, SlideShare, Tripit, and WordPress as well a Company Buzz application developed by LinkedIn. Each of these applications will help you stay current and competitive as a professional in today’s rapidly changing business world.
The video below gives an overview of our application platform featuring many of the application partners mentioned above.

Way to go, Reid. This app platform will prove to be a tremendous tool for everyone on LinkedIn. Thanks again for coming to our 2.Ohio event in Columbus. I recently posted a video compilation on YouTube of the event that features some pics of you. Here is the link:

Groups directory, discussions, newsfeeds and now add-on applications? I look forward to trying out a few of the new toys. I mean tools!
Thanks LinkedIn!
Congratulations LinkedIn team! The platform looks great, and almost better is the commercial for it
Nice ones! Now we need to be able to customize the LinkedIn frontpage further. With all these sweet applications I now have an extremely long right column
How do I report bugs in these new applications?
Blog Link has problems with international characters, and the Amazon Reading list is reporting a technical error.
Its great to have apps for Linkedin. Is it planned to open the API to developers in Facebook-Style? Me and my company would enjoy creating apps for Linkedin …

Great work done by LinkedIn

It’s a shame that the 2 apps I’ve tried – Slideshare and WordPress – are both broken; the first fails to connect to server, the second fails to do anything at all. Not too hasty with that roll-out I hope
I tried adding the blogging apps, but they dont work, just says “loading”.
congratulations Reid! Terrific news. I can’t wait to start building apps myself!
Hmmmm….
“We’re sorry but the My Travel application encountered an error that is making it impossible to render this page.
It’s possible that trying a different browser will help make the problem go away until we are able to fix it.”

I think this is an awesome idea! Glad to see you guys moving forward with more group options and profile applications!
Are there browser limitations with the WP app? Can’t seem to get it to work in FF3 or IE7? Hopefully it will though!
Keep us posted on the progress.

While I was unable to load and execute all the apps in IE or Mozilla (normal beta glitches), it looks like these are high-utility applications tightly focused on LinkedIn’s professional users. Thank you for resisting the temptation to chase Facebook’s 24,000 apps, iPhone’s 5,000 apps. Clearly LinkedIn gets it.
It looks like the “killer apps” include Tripit’s Travel Dashboard, LinkedIn’s Company Buzz and Huddle’s Workspaces. Next-tier apps such as Box.net, Slideshare, Google Presentations and Bloglink by Six Apart will lead to much richer profiles. Jury is out on Amazon’s reading list and WordPress’ blog poster as utility will be tied to uptake.
As this app market place evolves, I’d love to see widgets / mashups with: WebEx, SalesForce, Skype, Mint, QuickBooks, Paypal, ConceptShare and BaseCamp. Other cool functions could include convention / event registration and webcasts, T&E tracking,…
Very powerful.
…from pure professional (network) connections, to real-time dynamic and potentially complete view of your professional portrait; all in one place: CV, your network, your presentations, blog, etc…
I don’t see though a LinkedIn API for 3rd party application development; that is what its going to make the platform grow/explode.

Where can developers find out detailed technical information about how to implement applications for LinkedIn?
Or do we need to ask permission and get approval just to find out how it works technically?
D
Great! But how do I know who can see what I posted by an application and how can I manage who can see what? I asked the same question to the app. developer, because I’m not sure who can answer this question. The FAQ don’t say that much about it (yet).
Thanks in advance,
Anneke
Adding my WordPress blog to my Linkedin profile was easy and took four clicks.
Will you eventually be rolling out these applications to linked groups and company pages? Is this an open platform that anyone can develop for?
This is nice. How can other companies develop applications using Linkedin API?
Thanks,
Rana
I have been trying to use one of your new applications (the one from Amazon) all day, with no luck. Judging from the Twitter chatter, there appears to be a widespread problem.
How about providing us with an update on what’s going on? What’s working? What isn’t? What’s next?
The apps look like a great idea. Let’s not get off on the wrong foot with the roll out…
Is the WordPress app for blogs on wordpress.com only, or also for WordPress blogs hosted at other places??
When will the development platform be made available to regular developers?
Finally the power of LinkedIn can truly be realized. I like the new apps and I can definitely see the advantages of having them. LinkedIn was always and will be a forum for professionals in all areas of business for developing projects, maintaining existing themes and concepts as well as collaboration on new ideas between individuals. With these new apps, there is no question that this will catapult the usefulness of LinkedIn to where it becomes an essential and required tool in the arena of business and commerce.
Great Job LinkedIn!!!!
I’m in the process of uploading Blog Link. It seems to take forever. I’ve had it running since yesterday evening and it’s still not done. How long is it supposed to take?
I posted a first review about LinkedIn Applications here:
First Review: Using LinkedIn Applications to Show Professional Job Success -
http://jobmob.co.il/blog/using-linkedin-applications-show-work-success/
I’m very glad to see this finally launching. Good luck stabilizing the system through the initial rush.
Awesome!
I have an idea for an application… Do you plan to open up the platform for everybody. If so, when?

How to Export Microsoft Publisher Files
Can i import my reading lists from Amazon directly or do I need to search for every single book and manually add them? Additionally, I have Amazon book wish lists with dozens of books. Can I import these as well?
I would like to write a LinkedIn application to help programmers track and communicate their activities. Where can I find information about writing new applications?
Regards,
Kent
what is heck is wrong with our website??? Why can’t i get it on the web today???
I love how restrained you all have been with the applications you’ve included – linkedin seems predominantly a business platform, so having an uncluttered look is key.
I wonder if you’ve considered adding the ability to customize the location of the applications in your profile, though? For example, I want to include the SixApart app in my public profile to highlight my blog, but I don’t want it appearing in its current default position – is it possible to adjust its position?
Thanks so much for all your work on the apps, they’re great to have!
It is very exciting to know Linkedin launched inAPPs.Integration of SlideShare in Linkedin has been well explained.Yesterday I added Slideshare app to my Linkedin home page and profile. It is amazing!
I also saw Slideshare launched two slideshows to promote inApps.
Linkedin is running a great co-branding campaign.I will collect more cases other applications done.
I am not seeing discussion about this elsewhere, but I’m not getting anything to install. SlideShare stops at 30% and says server unavailable. Tripit just says “undefined”.
Any ideas?
In future are you planning to allow programmers to code their applications and use them in LinkedIn ?
Amazing stuff.. are we going to see Twitter on LinkedIn soon?
Thanks.
Hi,
Do you have any plans to have a WordPress application for self-hosted WordPress as well as WordPress.com ? I tried to link my blog (http://www.lizplummer.com/blog) and it refused it and I assume it is because it is hosted on my website rather than on WordPress.com.
Thanks. Love the new enhancements, by the way!
I really like the addition of the Applications and have installed at least three of them. That said, my first week’s work of impressions are that you have a lot more work to do to get them to work reliably on LinkedIn. TripIt and SlideShare aren’t working this morning when I try to use them. I look forward to you fixing this. Mark
This is a super cool initiative.. for some time now I have missed a way to display posts from my agile blog http://www.agilethoughts.dk on LinkedIn. I really look forward to see how this works.
Keep up the good work!
How about letting us feed RSS into our profiles or group discussion pages?
I am super excited to see what application are rolled out into the future. I am curious to see what the wordpress app will be like.
I tried to add Blog Link. It seems failed but turned out to be OK. Also, the apps seems fixed at a certain section of the page. Hope they could become movable type ASAP.
Great job on the apps! I’ve added WordPress and Amazon reading list. Any chance you could allow Amazon Affiliates to insert their own ID? Or develop a method to split the commission?
Any links to any API news available? My company would be very interested in creating some LinkedIn applications.
If you’re interested in developing for our Applications Platform you can propose an integration here: http://www.linkedin.com/static?key=developers_opensocial
Great features! Congrats!!
I’d like to suggest to include these applications also inside the Groups.
Hi..
I want to know when will e the API available to other users. I want to export my connecions from Linkedin and use that info in the site developed by me. How can I do that ?
While I’m very happy LinkedIn has taken the step to add applications, I haven’t been able to get Blog Link to work since the first day.
I can see my own blog posts in my profile, but cannot see anyone else’s on my home page. Just sits there and “spins” saying that it’s searching. Been doing this for over a week now. *smile*
Hope you can get to a fix before all the early adopters get tired of trying and give up…
AL
Great features, I do wish that you guys add in area where you can embed videos. Allow some small HTML coding to allow You Tube, or Dropshoots. Where we can introduce ourself face to face or a product or service that we want to promote…
My 2 cents…Gus
LinkedIn can provide complete solution for an expert of his subject matter, to not just network, but also publish commentary etc, receive donations/subscription revenue, etc, easily. Simply being able to network is not bad, but actually being able to collect donations/subscription revenue etc is also important for any expert in a particular subject matter.

Hi, I would like to contact the person in charge for the advertising on the Italian market, can you help me?
I am not sure what criteria LinkedIn required in order to approve our application using their APIs. I am really new in this area, but I have submitted the application for 2 weeks but nothing comes back. I am wondering what will be the procedure to go through. Thank you.

Great direction to go!¡
Look out Linkedin has kicked it up two notches!

I liked the reading list app by Amazon. I see lot of potential for Amazon to further enhance this app. I have noted down all suggestions on my blog @ Amazon & LinkedIn – Collaborative Prospects

Hi Puru,
As we’ve stated before, you can find all the details on the application process in the below 2 links:
1. If you want to develop an integration on your application or website – http://www.linkedin.com/static?key=developers_apis
2. f you want to develop an application that runs on LinkedIn – http://www.linkedin.com/static?key=developers_opensocial

Will there be Twitter???????????
There is an app called Company Buzz, which is basically Twitter search for companies. Feel free to try it out.
Thank’s Mario Sundar.
fascinating and informative, but would be suffering with something more on this topic?
glad to see LinkedIn has these applications, looking forward to more in the future!
Will LinkedIn provide an SDK or API for 3rd Party vendors to create applications like Facebook?
I have a great idea for an application, and even willing to develop it.
In brief: the idea is to have a quick way to notify all recruiters in your connections that your status has changed. Ideally this should be hidden from public.
From the recruiter’s perspective application will allow to search for all connections, which are in the “Looking for opportunity” or “Considering a change” state.
I update my facebook status from Twitter and would like to update LinkedIN the same way…
Seems an obvious win.

It is after waiting a few months to try out the various applications that I finally see their true value in complementing and enhancing the user experience on LinkedIn. Not all applications are for everyone, but there should be at least one application that every user should be using depending on their LinkedIn objective. Kudos to the development team, and I hope more applications are in the pipeline…I don’t need to tell you which applications would make logical additions as I am sure you already know!
Hi Guys is it possible to retrieve user info or profile info to my website, while a user sign up in my website ?
Cool article as for me. It would be great to read something more about this theme.
I agree with Stephan’s comment above.
I enjoyed reading your interesting yet very informative insights. I just love reading about 10 top anything and everything under the sun. Thank you for sharing and I am looking forward to reading your newest and most recent blogs on 10 top!!!

I like this site so much because we can share every type of data once i needed address of my friend urgently and there is no option to get his address but at that time through Linkedln i get the information from my friend i really thankful to Linkedln no doubt it is worthily blog
I have met Nia very recently, and what an incredible experience. A most awe inspiring convalescent experience, where this Lady has amongst her mamoth amount of responsibilities taken time out to focus her complete attention on a total stranger and give guidance and direction in his career path, that may just change the path of his furture. The manner of thought process, potential and hope that was exhibited had an amazing connection of compatabilty. I hope to continue, sustain and grow this professional relationship for many years to come.
Thanks for taking this opportunity to talk about “The LinkedIn Blog » Blog Archive Announcing Applications on LinkedIn «”, I benefit from learning about this subject. If possible, as you gain data, please update this blog with new information. Thanks, Hier
