Pay it forward: Help your graduating friends find their first big gig

LinkedIn is all about helping people be successful in their professional lives, and with that goal in mind we’re stepping up our efforts to help graduates launch their careers – starting today.

Over the next two weeks on our blog, we’ll have students and faculty (career services professionals, alumni department heads, etc.) from universities across the country share their advice on how grads and their parents can help launch new grads’ careers during this tough economy. We’ll also have experts, coaches, book authors and even journalists/media personalities talk on a range of topics such as the best ways to pay off your student debt, how to live on a budget without cutting out all of your fun and even the best ways for parents to productively talk to their new grads about getting jobs.

All this and more, right here on the LinkedIn blog.

If you’re a new grad or know someone who is, feel free to also join our LinkedIn ‘09 Grads Group and / or feel free to spread the word on Twitter.

  2. This thread about help for graduates strikes a chord with me, and maybe LinkedIn can help! I am working for a small company which has 6-month internship openings.

Unfortunately, 5 months ago, the local wells (the IT and CS departments of local colleges, and the local UNIX/Linux users groups) seems to have run dry, with only 3 applications submitted.

We’ve also posted on internship-in, but I’m trying to find other places to fish for intern candidates. Is there such a forum on LinkedIn? (Could there be?)

Where are the students and grads looking?

    Good luck with your searches,

  3. Awesome article! I really loved meeting young grads at my first job talk about earning degrees from one school or another and they were at best “social dorks” when it came to talking to people….communication is key in anything we do in life.

I remember like it was yesterday when Vinnie was always busting your hump back in the day and now look at your results years later…keep up the awesome work brother!

  4. Be and engineer, the market is always in demand, they get paid well, nd we need more of them.

  5. noting happend in past it happens in present.
man think always ownself why? i think it is due to fear factor when man want to achive our goal then they think only ownself they don’t think about other people, when they will think about other people then there is no need of think ownself because they are doing our job,but in otherhand there is a huge difference between past& present, past always give us to modify ourself but present for act to do such thing it will come to our prententacy. we will have to chang our mentality towords mankind.

  6. We have an opening for a Human Resource Generalist. We are willing to look at recent college grads as well as people with 2-3 yrs experience. I know it is tough in the job market but there are things out here. Send me a resume. Job is in Brighton, MI.

  7. Hi Sue,

You should consider joining our LinkedIn ‘09 Grads Group, you can post jobs directly, and let recent grads know of any opportunities.

  10. Great forum for college grads — I recently graduated from University of Phoenix (BA Business Management). During the last week of classes, the instructor asked what suggestions would we make to UOP regarding the online learning environment. One common theme was, UOP offering job resources for new graduates. One of my group links at Linked in is University of Phoenix so in hopes that my classmates consider joining this group, I decided to join.

  15. I just found this site- it looks like this thread is over- I have three college grads (all May 17th) and everyone in the house are spending HOURS online- what a terrible time – so nonpersonal- to look for jobs. I will send the grads this link maybe they can follow if there are more posts. Pay-it-forward is an awesome idea.

  16. Thanks for sharing, Kelly.

Feel free to also update your status – on LinkedIn and other sites like Twitter to further spread the message.
