This morning, at the BlackBerry Developer Conference in San Francisco, I have the great pleasure of announcing one of our most important mobile efforts for 2009: the launch of LinkedIn for BlackBerry.  Needless to say, this launch has been hotly anticipated by the millions of LinkedIn members who make the BlackBerry their mobile business platform of choice.

LinkedIn for Blackberry

LinkedIn for BlackBerry: Home

Imagine walking into any interview, any customer engagement or client meeting with the ability to look up the details on over 50 million professionals worldwide, in real-time.  Soon this will be a reality, as this application will bring the powerful capabilities of LinkedIn to your BlackBerry.

We’ve worked hard to develop an application that takes advantage of the unique capabilities of the BlackBerry platform.  LinkedIn for BlackBerry will also include deep integration with the native Messages, Contacts & Calendar applications on the BlackBerry platform.  For example, here is an early screenshot of the native BlackBerry Messages application, with LinkedIn invitations and one-to-one messages integrated into the inbox:

LinkedIn for BlackBerry: Messages

LinkedIn for BlackBerry will soon join our existing suite of mobile products, marking the next step in our continuing effort to bring LinkedIn to wherever you work.  This is just the beginning – expect continued enhancements and expansions of the LinkedIn mobile platform in 2010.

See you at the BlackBerry Developer Conference 2009. To stay updated on BlackBerry developments, join the LinkedIn for BlackBerry Group.

And, if you’re one of our users who can’t wait to find out when the application will be ready for install, just email blackberryapp@linkedin.com to receive a notification.

    Nice :)

  • Krzysztof Maj November 9th, 2009

It’s nice, please do it the same for Symbian S60 v3 and I will be really happy! Any plans to do the same for Symbian?

  • Jmartens November 9th, 2009

    Launch date?

  • Alex Gerstenzang November 9th, 2009

I think this is awesome news that could truly drive linked in to other level of acceptance. Making usage simpler while on the on the road is going to bring wider acceptance of a wonderful business social network. I still find plenty of Fortune 500 peers that interrupt a social network as Facebook. I do believe Linked In needs to increase their brand through the understanding that this is a serious business / professional relationship tool for growth in many genres and separate themselves from Facebook and Twitter.

  • Brian November 9th, 2009

    Freakin awesome work guys!

    I can’t wait!!!

  • Elena Caple November 10th, 2009

I am very excited for this app. It sounds interesting; I’d like to know exactly how you’ve made it. My Blackberry is one of the few things in my possession that I haven’t ripped up to see how it works.

While BB devices will it be able to run on? I have an older Bold, but this might cause me to buy a newer one. Looking forward to it!

  • Dave November 10th, 2009

  • Pat Lovenhart November 13th, 2009

I’m really looking forward to the release of this app!

  • Andrey Golub November 16th, 2009

I think it’s a very important step for LinkedIn who’s a Leading Business Social Network, to marry BlackBerry, the Leading mobile platform for Business Workers. The app for iPhone issues earlier is just a joke, the business people who do Networking online are most (at least in Europe) on Blackberry.

And we expect more from LinkedIn on mobile!

  • Ari Herzog November 30th, 2009

It’s one day away from the end of the month. Any updates?

    • Dirk Frey November 30th, 2009

@Ari- Our plans are still to release by end of year. Stay Tuned!

  • Jim Sloey December 3rd, 2009

Are you looking for experienced beta testers?

  • Bashar Al-Abdulhadi December 5th, 2009

    Hello,
No news yet for blackberry native client?

Also please consider having an Android version as its expanding platform

  • Joey December 7th, 2009

This is very good news indeed. Do you guys already have a specific release date in mind?

  • Brandon Humrick December 8th, 2009

    Sign me up yesterday.

  • Mike December 11th, 2009

    Tick tock, tick tock…
    Can’t wait for this. :)
Any word on Twitter app for BB? Too bad the apps are still slow to come for BBs.

  • dickies December 21st, 2009

    Still nothing…………
    It’s just never gonna happen

  • Scott Jardine December 21st, 2009

Is this app really going to be launched before the end of the year?

  • Phil December 23rd, 2009

Less than a week to go until the end of the year. Is the LinkedIn application for the BlackBerry still going to be released before the years end?

    • Adam Nash December 27th, 2009

A quick note to the last few commenters about the LinkedIn for Blackberry application launch:

We’re definitely close. The team is in the final stages of testing with the LinkedIn for Blackberry application. We’re working through the holiday break, so we hope to have good news for Blackberry users early in 2010.

The frustration is completely understood, but the Blackberry platform is very important to us, and we’re implementing a number of features that we haven’t launched for any other mobile device. As a result, we’re working extremely hard to make sure that the quality of this application is as high as possible. We hope it’ll be worth the wait.

      Take care,
      Adam

  • Rob December 24th, 2009

So, this was all just vaporware, huh? It’s nearly the end of the year and still no app.

I find it ironic that Linkedin positions itself as a business network, but continues to ignore the number 1 business device – the blackberry.

  • Phil Fenton December 27th, 2009

I sooo agree with Rob. It boggles the mind that LinkedIn would chose the iPhone over BB to launch their app. But being a software tease is the worst. In addition to not having an app for the BB user community, to make the announcement and then not even update prospective users on the delay…typical corporate America run around. By the time they get an app for BB i’ll be a Droid user.

    • Adam Nash December 27th, 2009

Phil, see my comment above. There are additional details on the LinkedIn for Blackberry group linked in the blog post above.

  • Terry Harless December 29th, 2009

    Adam,

I think not only are these people impatient, but they are also frustrated that the Blackberry wasn’t the first mobile application LinkedIn developed. I totally agree with them and barely use the application at the present time. Once the Blackberry Application is created, I will definitely use it quite a bit since its a good way to contact clients.

  • Rob December 30th, 2009

    @Adam,

I appreciate that clarification on the time schedule. That said, it seems based on your latest blog post (yesterday), that development resources remain focused on newer versions of the iPhone app.

Considering your target market is more likely to be Blackberry toting than iPhone toting, why not prioritize the Blackberry?

Maybe you can give us a blog post on the hold up. How about a post explaining what is so difficult about writing a Blackberry app for the three or four current Blackberry models? Or perhaps a post explaining that I and many others are wrong in our hypothesis and that LinkedIn users are actually more likely to be using iPhones than Blackberries.

    • Adam Nash December 30th, 2009

      Hi Rob,

We actually have completely separate development teams working on the iPhone and Blackberry clients. We continue to put an extremely high priority on the Blackberry application.

LinkedIn has never publicly disclosed data on mobile usage of its platform broken down by device. If there is interest however, maybe that is something we can put in a future blog post.

      Take care,
      Adam

  • Ben December 30th, 2009

Adam, this application will be extremely useful to many of use on Blackberries as so many in the business world are. Any hint of which devices are being targeted first? Looking forward to it and willing to be a beta tester!

  • jonathan cohen December 30th, 2009

Please send me a notification when this app is available for Blackberry. Thanks,

    Jonathan

  • Shishir Misra December 31st, 2009

This is fabulous news. I’m eagerly looking forward to this application. This will change the way I network professionally. Access to LinkedIn on hand held will enable me build and leverage my social network better. Please sign me up for beta test – if you planning for one.

    Cheers,
    Shishir Misra

  • Joel December 31st, 2009

    FEATURE REQUEST:
Add in 2D Barcode functionality with hotkey assignment (display/read at the touch of a button) for fast connection between in-person users. For whatever reason RIM doesn’t get it, hiding barcodes in BBM, menus-deep, real shame.

  • Gareth James January 2nd, 2010

Is this app out yet? I have been moaning for ages about all the apps being made for the iphone so pretty happy we finally got something coming our way.

  • cutekevin January 4th, 2010

look forward to the awesome app.

  • Michael January 4th, 2010

Thanks for the updates Adam – and good news on the 2010 release of LinkedIn for BB. I’ve always wondered why there isn’t one – especially when I’ve had facetube for the BB for months now…

  • Esther Vicent January 5th, 2010

I cannot also wait. Keep me informed please about the aplications for BB & LinkedIn.
    Thanks in advanced
    EV

  • Phil January 5th, 2010

Is this application going to be released this month?

How far away is it from becoming a reality?

I have been anticipating the release of this application for nearly 2 whole months.

    • Derek Homann January 13th, 2010

The team is currently finishing up the final stages of development and it will be released as soon as all the kinks are worked out. We are pretty excited about the release but we know that quality is the number one thing that we can’t compromise on. We don’t have a definitive date yet but expect it to be soon.

  • Richard January 5th, 2010

Also keen to know the moment it’s released. (would also be prepared to beta test). Thanks for the efforts guys, just please hurry ;)

  • mobiGeek January 6th, 2010

    @Adam

    It is “BlackBerry”, not “Blackberry”.

    mG.

  • Pedro Fonseca January 7th, 2010

I do understand why developers prioritize the iPhone market, but can’t agree with the LinkedIn policy regarding this issue.
It is known that iPhone has a huge share of the market (even my granma has one), but the top professional mobile device is the BB. And LinkedIn isn’t Hi5 or Facebook. It’s the #1 place where the professionals meet.

Let’s see if 2010 (1st trimester, I hope) give uss BB users good news.

  • Phil January 7th, 2010

Any update on the release date for the BlackBerry Linkedin client?

    Is it due out soon?

I just cant wait for it to hit our BlackBerry phones.

  • Alf January 7th, 2010

Waiting for the launch… Tired to use mobile web site!

  • Steve Lane January 7th, 2010

Can’t wait for this app. Can I beta test?

  • William January 7th, 2010

Saw a review of it today from CES. Xobni & Linkedin are my two favourite tools and mobile versions on my Bold would be super.

Happy to try it out “real world” if you need a guinea pig before launch.

    –William

  • Martin Brossman January 8th, 2010

Is it possible to be a beta tester of this Blackberry / Linkedin App?

    Look forward to it soon.

    Martin Brossman

  • Jennifer Stevenson January 9th, 2010

Can I get added to the beta testers list? I’m a willing Guinea pig :)

  • Jason January 9th, 2010

Has Flash and Java been developed for the Blackberry and also what about Shockwave flash and playing jpegs/mpegs/etc?

  • Michael Andersson January 13th, 2010

Great! When will it be released?

  • Hayden James January 18th, 2010

Looking forward to this launch. Thumbs up.

  • Andrew Edmonds January 20th, 2010

Must be imminent now, looking forward to this!

  • Thomas Rayas January 20th, 2010

Great work. Hope to see it soon!

  • Ryan Poulin January 20th, 2010

I cannot wait for this… I am leaving blackberry for LinkedIn and this is the last thing I need to leave it. Please let me know if I can test anything.

    Ryan

  • Petar Zivanic January 24th, 2010

Thank you, can’t wait to get my hands on this app. However, I would like to ask whether full compatibility with Storm range of models is something we could expect? I do not want one of those “Blackberry apps” that I either cannot install/run or, even if I can, the virtual keyboard is always on in the irritating portrait orientation. Please, give us a proper Storm app, since it’s the Storm where your application will shine in its true glory.

  • Dan January 27th, 2010

    Hi all,

Is there any sign of the app for BB yet?

We all know that BB’s are usually owned by Professionals and Iphones are but a childs toy put to good use.

Is there a release date for the app yet?

Sign me up for Beta Testing

    Kind regards

    Dan

  • Jeff February 1st, 2010

Any news on the release for the BlackBerry app yet?

  • Chris Combs February 6th, 2010

I also am looking with great anticipation to a native BB app for LinkedIn

  • John Wilharm February 7th, 2010

Any news on the release date? And once it is release, from where can it be downloaded?

  • Jeroen February 11th, 2010

It seems a bit quiet around this app… is news on its way?

If you need a Beta tester, sign me up!

  • Michael February 11th, 2010

When will this be available? This was supposed to be end of last year its now feb!

  • Thomas Rayas February 12th, 2010

We also need to see an updated version for Android devices. Current implementations on the marketplace now are not working and resulting in very negative comments.

  • Dan February 12th, 2010

Its sure taking its time, does anyone know of a release date yet?it was supposed to be out months ago!

Is there any news or are we just going to hear-its coming soon?

  • Chris February 12th, 2010

I think there should be a release date for the release date….let us know on which day we can expect to hear the release date…please stop making me have to remember to keep checking to see if you’ve made any decisions about when to release this app.

    Thanks

  • Bashar February 12th, 2010

can’t they just outsource it to zillion of developers out there and get it done in 30 days?

paid members need to push them officially

  • slvr6 February 18th, 2010

Adam, any updates for even a possible release date? The connection with Worldmate is good as is the Outlook connector, but we really want the BB application!

  • Michael Heiser February 18th, 2010

Is there a more definitive timeframe for the release other than “soon” yet?

  • jim February 19th, 2010

Sadly, this type of release schedule for BB apps is typical. I have a feeling RIM’s API is more to blame than LinkedIn.

It’s not uncommon for iPhone/Android to get the love first and BB to follow along months later.

  • john February 19th, 2010

Wow, a lot of people here have faith in RIM who have never hit a delivery date yet.
You’re surprised that they said EOY ’09 and it now 02 ’10??? With their history, they have 6 more months of grace before anyone has the right to be upset. If you don’t like it, go buy an iPhone and send your old blackberry to RIM’s Waterloo ON HQ address as listed on their website. In other word’s, let your money do the talking.

  • s February 19th, 2010

    Ditto… timeline would be nice.
Having a hard time managing my group when I can’t access LinkedIn from work. Thx!

  • Dassa February 20th, 2010

This is pretty pathetic – considering it’s BB users who will utilize this more than compared with our friends and their iToys. In facts, friends of mine with iPhones don’t even know what linkedin is! Rubbish.

  • Bashar February 21st, 2010

couldn’t agree more Dassa, iPhone is a toy i use BB for business and iphone to play games

blackberry is the #1 business device out there

  • Thomas Rayas February 22nd, 2010

Well, with the new Android devices out there and Nitrodesk’s Touchdown ActiveSync Exchange client, there may be a better alternative for some if the LinkedIn for Android app gets done before the Blackberry version. At this point, I’ll take either!

  • Brandon Erik Bertelsen February 23rd, 2010

I’d be interested to know if there are any updates on this app. I’m actually quite surprised that it hasn’t been a priority over the iphone application. But I can only echo the comments of others in this regard… with businesses choosing bb… and linkedin being about business networks.

  • Shawn February 26th, 2010

I to am ready for this app.

  • Gav March 1st, 2010

Anyone have any view of when this app will be released, been waiting nearly 4 months since it was anounced

  • Adnan Ahmed March 5th, 2010

Gav your not the only one, I also hav been sitting here waiting for the release. Bit of a shame that it was supposed to come earl 2010 and we are almost nearing Q1 2010. I think the earlier comments by Rob and Phil Fenton are spot on. Tried searching the net for some more info but still no clear updates. Looks like its an iphone market

  • Paul Rose March 5th, 2010

No one knows…Its the mystery event of 2010…:D

  • Ash March 5th, 2010

You should named it “Will come sometime…” instead of “Coming Soon..”, it been 4 months…everyone got excited and now their tempo’s are down….cmon guys, just release it now…

  • Navin March 5th, 2010

Seriously, is this app coming at all?????

  • vincent van eekhout March 7th, 2010

    Hi Adam,
Just stepped over from htc mobile to blackberry and was a amazed about the number of appls for blackberry. Unfortunetaly and surprisingly I missed a LinkeIn appl for blackberry. See at your site that the launch is soon, when can we exect the launch?
Thanks for answering and informing us.
    Vincent

  • David Sealey March 9th, 2010

I need LinkedIn for Blackberry. I’d pay for it.

Any updates would be appreciate guys.

    David Sealey

  • Dr. Harvey March 12th, 2010

I travel extensively and actually only rarely use a desktop contact client such as outlook but rather keep my contacts on my Blackberry. LinkedIn would be invaluable for me but the wait is becoming ridiculous. If there is a significant delay in the process please just let us know.

  • Eric March 13th, 2010

I’d love to see LinkedIn for Blackberry! Please keep us updated. Thanks!

  • Paul Banbury March 17th, 2010

Soon it is April- fools! I have come to rely more on Facebook, and access Linkedin only on the laptop, not at meetings as I had hoped. My wife’s iPhone does that for us.

  • Dirk March 30th, 2010

    Yahoo it’s here!

  • Thomas Rayas March 30th, 2010

I downloaded and installed it this morning. So far so good! Thank you!

  • N Panchal April 21st, 2010

I hope, someone at linkedin is working on app for Android. I am eagerly waiting for android app. Most of the apps available in android market are not upto the mark & some of them are broken due to change in API. Please….. Please…. release app for Android platform too.

  • Venkatesh May 6th, 2010

Gr8 news. Keep me posted. Venkatesh.
