Honoring Our Service Members & Veterans With One Year Free Learning on Lynda.com
November 11, 2015
When Secretary of Defense Ash Carter visited LinkedIn a few months ago, he challenged us and other Silicon Valley companies to play a more active role in supporting service members and veterans. As Veteran Program Manager at LinkedIn and a proud veteran myself, I’m honored to report this Veterans Day that we are answering that call to duty by renewing and expanding our commitment to the military and veteran communities.
To that end, I'm excited to share that we have expanded our veterans program to include online learning with Lynda.com -- the gold standard for on-demand learning with more than 4,000 expert-led courses teaching business, creative and technical skills. Lynda.com offers a range of courses to suit the needs of active duty service members, transitioning veterans and those veterans already in the private sector. This is a tool to empower you as a professional to connect with opportunity and build your future!
U.S. Service Members and Veterans can get started in 3 simple steps:
- Sign-up for your FREE year of learning on Lynda.com. This includes unlimited access to 4,000 courses in business, creative and technology skills all taught by industry experts.
- Check out the newly released Lynda.com video \"Translating Your Military Service to Civilian Life.\" by Lida Citroën. Lida has worked with hundreds of veterans to ease the transition experience and help them reintegrate with confidence and success.
- Get a FREE one year LinkedIn Premium Job Seeker account to access advanced job search tools and join the Veteran Mentor Network Group, where you can discuss your transition and career plans with people who have been in your shoes.
To further demonstrate our commitment to the military community, the LinkedIn Picture Opportunity mobile photo studio and several LinkedIn employees had the honor of spending yesterday at the US Air Force Academy. Hundreds of cadets and service members stopped by to get free professional headshots taken and advice on building their LinkedIn profiles -- a powerful first step on the road to future opportunity.
While at the Academy, I was reminded of my own journey transitioning from the Marine Corps. At times it felt overwhelming, but I believe with a good plan of action, the right skills, and a supportive network, the experience can be empowering and set you on the on the road to an exciting new future.
