Setting Up Meetings Just Got Easier with New Features in LinkedIn Messenger

March 21, 2019

Having a community of professionals to exchange ideas with, ask advice from, or chat about industry trends can go a long way in helping you be more productive and successful. In fact, 70% of professionals say their support system is one of the top factors contributing to success at work.

One of the best ways to nurture your professional community is by staying in touch regularly and setting up time to chat. When scheduling, we know the top things you need to know is when to meet and where to meet — so to make this as easy as possible, we’ve recently added a few new features in LinkedIn Messenger to help out.

Easily share your availability to schedule meetings

Many of you have shared that you often coordinate meetings with the people you chat with in LinkedIn Messenger — for example, a student reaching out to alumni for advice, setting up a meeting with a recruiter to talk about a job opportunity, or scheduling a call with a customer.

We know scheduling can often be a pain; you have to switch back and forth between apps to check your calendar, copy and paste multiple time slots, and then coordinate with the other person. So we set out to streamline this process. You can now share your availability directly within a conversation you’re having in the LinkedIn app (available now to all members on Android and rolling out to iOS).

Availability side by side

Simply tap the calendar icon to grant access to reference the local calendar on your mobile device, and then select the open time slots you’d like to propose. Coming soon, you'll also be able to check and see whether a proposed time works and send a confirmation. Check out our Help Center to learn more about this feature and our Engineering blog for how we built it.

Quickly find a spot to meet

In addition to staying in touch with your network virtually, setting up face-to-face meetings with people is a valuable way to strengthen relationships and give and get help — and in fact, more than two-thirds (67%) of people have met up with a professional contact outside of work.

To make it easier for you to find a coffee shop or other locations for a meeting, you can now do this within a conversation you’re having with a connection on LinkedIn. You can also share your current one-time location, which is especially useful when you’re on a business trip in a new city or want to set up real-time meetings at events.

location

To send a location to a connection, simply tap on the map pin icon in the message compose box in our iOS or Android app, search for a meeting place, and tap send. You can learn more on our Help Center.
