Advance your career

Working It Out, Together.

2020 has arguably been one of the most challenging years in our lifetimes, and certainly the most unusual that many of us have experienced in our careers. Companies around the world switched – almost overnight – to remote working, and people have been relying on technology to stay connected to their professional network.

This shift has impacted how our members interact on the platform and we have seen countless examples of the community sharing their stories, finding new jobs, upskilling with learning courses, and supporting each other in whatever way they can.

LinkedIn insights show that globally, there has been a 50% year-on-year growth in content sharing, and LinkedIn Live streams are up 89% between March-June 2020.

Seeing the community pulling together in this crisis became the inspiration for our latest UK campaign: Working It Out. The narrative follows three stories of adapting to the new normal - taking a virtual job interview, starting a new job remotely and delivering an important presentation from home.

New research from LinkedIn has shown that more than 1 in 10 (12%) UK workers who have been working from home since the start of lockdown have had a virtual job interview, and 13% have started a new job remotely. A further 9% of those surveyed said they have turned to social media to seek advice from their professional community, which is reflected in the way LinkedIn members are using the platform.

Directed by British Academy Film & Television Awards (BAFTA) winning screenwriter, Michael J. Ferns, the 60 second spot was shot in the film crew’s family homes during lockdown and features a voiceover by Susan Wokoma, star of UK’s Chewing Gum and BAFTA breakthrough artist of 2017.

Practically speaking, there were certainly a few creative challenges associated with filming while adhering to social distancing rules, we feel though that the end result is an honest glimpse into the current reality of working from home and navigating the jobs market.

And we’re not quite there yet. The next phase of all of this is still being discussed and tested as we speak - but either way, we’re confident that whatever twists and turns await us, that the community on LinkedIn, and beyond, will continue to help work it out - together.
