Discover and Explore More With Our New Intuitive, Streamlined Search Experience

April 16, 2021

Search is a critical component to help our members be more productive and successful. Our new search experience makes it easier than ever for you to find what you need, connect with your community and discover opportunities on LinkedIn. Here’s how you can get the most out of our new search experience.

Discover all you need in one search

Our improved search experience helps you discover people, jobs, posts, companies, schools, groups and events faster in one organized blended search results page. Here are a few ways the new search experience helps you find all you need:

  • Companies: When searching for a particular company, for example LinkedIn, you’ll also find relevant people, jobs and posts. We’ve also added more personalized insights into search results, like companies that have hired past coworkers or alumni from the school you attended, and a “People Also Viewed” list so you can explore opportunities at similar organizations.

  • Topics: Every day, we’re seeing our members share like never before, and engagement stemming from content searches on LinkedIn has increased 35% year-over-year. If you want to stay up to date on a particular topic, like vaccines or remote work, type it into your search bar to find trusted news and posts, and relevant jobs and conversations. You can also now glimpse your connections’ recent activity when you search for them, making it easy for you to engage with their posts and join the conversation.

  • Jobs: When searching for a specific job title, like customer service specialist, you’ll find job postings and number of applicants for those roles, related posts to browse, groups to join and people who may be able to help.

  • Learning courses: If you're a job seeker looking to build your skills, we’ve added a dedicated search filter for LinkedIn Learning courses, where you can browse the more than 16,000 learning courses without having to leave (for example, communication skills). You’ll also see LinkedIn Learning courses “liked” by people who work at your company.
  • Events: Last year, 21 million members attended virtual events on LinkedIn. Now, you can more easily browse and explore relevant online events to attend. For example, if you’re looking for a new role, simply type: job seeking events into your search bar.

Use filters to narrow down your search

If you want to define criteria for your search, we’ve added more search filters. After you add a term to the search box and land on your initial search results page, here are some ways you can filter your results:

  • Filter people by connection degree, location, current and past companies, school and industry. You can also specify first name, last names or job titles.

  • Filter posts by author, date, and industry, or sort them by most recent.

  • Filter companies by location, industry, company size, whether you know someone who works there, and whether they are hiring.

Get suggestions on what actions to take

To make it easier for you to act, we’ve added more calls-to-action in search results. Now you can simply tap “follow” to stay up to date on companies whose updates you want to see in your feed, and “save” jobs that you’re interested in applying to later.

We’re excited about our search redesign but there’s more to come. We’ll continue to look for new and better ways to help you unlock what you need on LinkedIn -- stay tuned!
