Transparency Report: First Half of 2021

Today we published our Transparency Report for the first half of 2021.  Once again, this provides details about government requests we received and action we took to remove content that violates our Professional Community Policies.  Engagement continues to grow as more people are seeking out economic opportunity and professional connections. Posts, comments and shares continued to increase to record levels. While the vast majority of conversations were constructive, we did see an increase in misinformation, hate speech, and other abusive content.

Here are a few highlights from the report:

  • The number of government requests for data about members went up, as did the number of accounts impacted by those requests.

  • We continue to see an increase in abusive content that we remove, including hateful and derogatory content and misinformation.  We largely attribute these increases to a corresponding increase in engagement, overall, as well as macro world events that are being discussed on the platform.

  • The number of fake accounts detected and removed did not change significantly since the last reporting period, but of those that made it onto the platform we were able to take down 23% more before members reported them.

Our teams are working every day to build a safe, trusted, and professional community on LinkedIn. Our product and engineering teams are building new abuse-prevention solutions, including models that help us detect and remove content that goes against our policies. Our work here is ongoing and we look forward to sharing more about our progress.
