Transparency Report: First Half of 2020

November 10, 2020

Today we’re sharing our Transparency Report for the first half of 2020. In the six months since our last report, we’ve seen more people than ever before using LinkedIn to share updates, opinions, ideas and experiences. We’ve also seen a corresponding uptick in the number of requests included in our Government Requests Report, and in the scale of the action we’ve taken to address abusive accounts and content, described in our Community Report.

Here’s a bit on what’s new:

  • We were able to stop a large-scale effort that tried to create more than 33 million fake accounts. Our automated defenses blocked 98.4% of all fake accounts we prevented or took down on LinkedIn during this period.

  • Increased member reporting for spam and scams in this reporting period helped us find and remove this type of abusive content. And we continue to catch more than 98% of the spam and scam content we remove before members encounter it.

  • We saw an increase in the amount of hate speech, harassment, adult, and violent content that we removed in this reporting period, which corresponds with an overall increase in the volume of conversations on LinkedIn.

  • As part of our effort to be as transparent as possible when it comes to issues affecting our members on the platform, we’ve added a new Community Report category addressing the volume of misinformation we removed. For the January-June reporting period, we removed 22,846 instances of misinformation, including misinformation related to the global pandemic.

Our work continues to keep LinkedIn safe, trusted and professional. In addition to reviewing today’s report, take a look at our updated Professional Community Policies as well as some new tools to help you get the most out of your experience.
